    After several years of overwhelming dominance, Alfredo Binda was nicely asked (and paid generously) by the organizers to skip the Giro d'Italia.

    During the 2nd stage near Mount Etna,  future winner Luigi Marchisio was hit in the eyes by vulcanic rock and had to wear a bandage for several days.

    Luigi Marchisio was 20 years 8 months and 18 days old when he won the Giro what made him the youngest ever Giro d'Italia winner then. Only Fausto Copi was younger when he won the race in 1940,

    Aristide Cavallini was the best independent rider (isolato). He finished in the eight place in the general classification.
