30 May 1968 Monte Grappa was introduced to Giro d’Italia

Monte Grappa is well known for cycling fans as one of those moster climbs of Giro d’Italia.

The ascent was introduced to Giro d’Italia in 1968. It was a 136 km long stage  (Stage 10) starting from Trento and finishing on the top of the hill on 30 May 1968. Emilio Cassalini crossed the finish line first on that day.

Although the date suggest otherwise, because nowadays Giro d’Italia used to start a bit earlier, the race was still in an early phase, even Eddy Merckx showed his “Cannibal” attitude two days later, while climbing Tre Cime di Lavaredo. He eventuslly became the winner of that years competition.
