Vicente Trueba climbing Galibier (Tour de France 1933)

Spanish climber Vicente Trueba was the  first King of the Mountains of Tour de France. The special competition was introduced to the race in 1933.

In 1933, Trueba reached most of the important peaks of the race first, but being a less skilled descender, he could never gain anything, a stage victory for example, from being the first rider on the top.

However in 1933, Trueba finished 6th in the general classification.

Galibier was part of the program of the 7th stage in 1933. It was a 229 long route between Aix-le-Bains and Grenoble, and included also Télégraphe and Lautaret. A bunch of riders, many favourites among them, like Antonin Magne or Maurice Archambaud, but also Vincente Trueba, arrived in the finish together.

Learco Guerra won the stage,  while Maurice Archambaud maintained his leading position. He lost his yellow and gained back again in the next few days, but at the end Georges Speicher became the winner of Tour de France 1933.
